Monthly Door Balance Quick-Test
Disconnect the opener, lift the door halfway, and let go. If it drifts noticeably up or down, your springs are out of balance and the opener is working harder than it should. Call us before the spring snaps or the opener gear strips.
- Test with the opener unplugged so you only feel door weight
- If the door slams shut, stay clear—that's a failing spring
- Never loosen spring hardware yourself; the torque can injure you
Keep Sensors and Tracks Clean
Most “door won't close” calls are solved with a microfiber cloth. Dust the photo-eye lenses, tighten the wing nuts so both sensors point straight, and remove spider webs from the track near the floor where leaves pile up.
If the opener lights flash, press and hold the wall button to override once, then fix the obstruction before using the remote again.
Opener Noise Decoder
Different sounds point to different problems. A humming motor with no movement usually means a broken spring holding the door down. Clicking relays or repeated beeps often indicate a battery backup failure. Grinding chains point to worn drive gears.
- Loud metal-on-metal scraping? Inspect rollers and hinge pins.
- Random reversing? Check that the safety sensors are aligned and the track is free of debris.
- Power cycling or GFCI trips? Unplug, wait 30 seconds, and try another outlet to rule out the circuit.
